A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the facility.

Passenger services have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport after a substantial technical issue at the control tower brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Several flyers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

That said, significant disruption are anticipated to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others experiencing delays.

An airport representative had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Flyers are asked to contact their airlines for the latest information on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Travelers should still plan to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as knock-on effects are cleared.
